Too Busy? How to Get More Time as a Tradie
“Not enough time” is the biggest complaint we hear from our tradies.
You’re expected to be everywhere at once, put out all the fires, and then do your admin and books after hours.
But quite frankly, that sounds like a terrible way to run a business.
In my old world (as a psychologist) that is a sure-fire way to get you a giant dose of burnout.
But here’s the best way to make more time in your trades business without you having to do too much.
Step 1: hand over your bookkeeping. It’s the easiest thing to palm off. You don’t have to train anyone. You don’t have to find jobs for them to do. And you only pay for what they do. They can streamline systems for you, show you time saving apps and make sure you’re compliant.
Step 2: when you have some time freed up, get a Virtual Assistant for tradies. They’re a fraction of the cost of hiring someone in Australia. They do need some input from you – regularly – but mostly at the start.
We have some systems in place to make that work more smoothly for you.
Before you hire a VA, record all the tasks you do yourself and all the ones you don’t have time to get around to. That way when we find the right person for you, they already have a list of things to get started with.
As they grow with you, you’ll find yourself able to hand over more and more responsibilities. It’s not unreasonable to think your VA could go from doing general admin tasks to taking on your invoicing (in time).
Imagine how much time that would free up for you.
